Jazz Guitar Alchemy - Exploring the Core Challenges of Improvisation & Performance
Often, beginning and aspiring Jazz Guitar Players, in addition to assimilating basic music theory, harmony, and fundamentals, are faced with a tremendous learning curve broken down into three areas.
These areas are:
- Approaching melodic facility comparable to the capabilities of wind and brass instrumentalists
- Approaching chordal facility comparable to the pianist and/or vibraphonist and complementary to the other instrumentalists and soloists
- Approaching rhythmic facility comparable to the drummer and bass player and complementary to the other instrumentalists and soloists
These areas encompass development and cultivation of technical as well as mental skills and capabilities.
Jazz-Guitar-Alchemy.com is dedicated to exploring the development of the individual Player. We will attempt to identify a core set of fundamental elements to serve as a basis for approaching the three key challenge areas identified above. Once core fundamentals are covered, there are more paths to mastery at the alchemical and improvisational level than can actually be covered in detail in one website or book. What we will attempt to do there is refer to supplemental material and invite articles that will address specific approaches. We will also seek feedback from time to time on this website's effectiveness in assisting aspiring guitar players on their alchemical journey to mastering the three areas essential to Great Performance and Improvisation.
